We shift from existing water quality sensing paradigms that rely on complex and expensive laboratory-based analysis and present a novel approach that introduces a sensor whose measurement principles are based on utilizing the image capturing and processing power of smartphones. Recent advances in photonics, nanomaterial synthesis, microfluidics, and image sensing of smartphones have made the development of such sensors possible.
